Gather around for Countryside Fun at the Lancaster's Traditional Amish Mud Sales

Want to connect with local cultures in Pennsylvania? Be one with the Dutch community when volunteering fire companies and farmers come together after winter to sell locally sourced items like hand-made quilts, crafts, furniture, baked goods, antiques, livestock and more in highly popular gatherings around Lancaster. Held all throughout spring-summer, these sparsely located fairs can draw a crowd of up to 20,000 at a single event. Engage in friendly banters as prized goods are held for auction. Complete your mud sales experience with Pennsylvania's famous Dutch chicken corn soup or choose from farm-fresh sticky buns or funnel cakes with your breakfast on chilly mornings. • How to bid for items in an Amish Mud Sale? Can outsiders bid?
Visitors, as well as locals, can bid over products sold at Amish Mud Sales. Biddings open sharp at 8-8:30 AM on Saturday mornings and seats are allotted on a first-come-first-serve basis. Once you arrive, find the registration counter to register with your number. This is your official ticket to bid on items. Once registrations are done, check the timetable sheet given to you for the auction you want to bid on. There will be six to seven auctions happening simultaneously, so choose wisely. Hold your number high so the "spotters" can identify your bid. Post-auction, you can pay your bill via Visa or MasterCard to claim your prize.
  • When and where are the Amish Mud Sales held?
Amish Mud Sales are a varying tradition amongst the Dutch community in Pennsylvania. Lancaster County is known for its popular Amish Mud Sale events and they can get very crowded. These are held across the county including Denver, Honey Brooks, and several other places. Check the full list of events here. These fairs are mostly a spring-summer traditional coinciding with the recession of winter. But on a month-by-month basis, they can be held on any Saturday from February to October.
